8's Head by Shadowfox012 8's Head by Shadowfox012
This is the head/helmet I made for my 8 cosplay from the Movie 9 by Tim Burton (which is based off of a Short by Shane Acker). The heads base is originally a baseball helmet with tons of expanding foam that I carved into the proper shape for his head. I then painted it dark brown, and when that dried I added the burlap skin to the head. That wasn't easy mind you lol but after that I went through with a long and curved needle and gave him that Frankenstein stitching across his face with brown wool.

After that was done I glued on his eyes which are mainly PVC which I cut and painted and added craft-foam for the iris of his eyeball. Now The hardest part about the eye for me had to be making that shutter lens part for the pupil... now that would of been awesome to make it move but I just did a lot of geometry and came up with the proper overlayed/layered pupil you see which is made out of thick cardboard.

By the way just so everyone knows I actually see out of the mouth on this which has a bit of black see through material on the inside to not mess with my vision but to obscure other peoples sight of my face. I did this mostly since for one I could have a wider range of vision by looking through a visor like form like his mouth rather than two holes for eyes. Plus the added height since I am only 5'11" which is average but I wanted to look taller than other 9 cosplayers if possible.

:iconscaredplz:

That looks like you just went into the movie, grabbed 8, said "Hi I'm borrowing him for a bit" and proceeded to dissect him! So realistic!

Actually it's a Shane Acker movie. Tim Burton came to Shane and proposed to help him make it into a full length movie.A lot of people get it wrong so it's no big deal (there's even a fan comic of Tim Burton being praised by a reporter and Shane being shunned.Tim Burton is saying it isn't his movie while the reporter calls Shane Acker a wannabe XP )

Good job on the helmet tough! It really looks like 8!Details are all correct and the optics are dazzling!

lol I know it was a short made by Shane Acker that Tim Burton made into a Movie... I actually had a long conversation with somebody telling me all of that before about him not getting credit and so on which I enjoyed hearing about, but I do try and slip his name in when I get the chance because he was the original creator... and thank you for the props! XD

Um I don't think I'll be doing anymore of the 1-9 but I might do one of the creatures like the Seamstress is one I'm thinking about doing later on this year perhaps... would make for a nice fighting scene with 8... plus gives my mom something to wear since she enjoys cosplaying as well.

Cool! The Seamstress is one of the creepier creatures, it sends chills up my back.I am sure your mom will look lovely in it ^^ maybe nicer then the real thing because she wouldn't be trying to tie you up or offer you to her god (that scene where sh was giving 8 and 7 to the Fabricator reminded me a lot of sacrifice rituals O.O) XD

lol yeah I think it was the creepiest monster... however I loved the first beast one... but to do that cosplay with it being mostly a skeleton I'd have to either do a puppet or a black with it all attached... still an interesting idea though.

Yep. The cat beast is one of the main inspirations for 9 fans to do beasts. I myself have the Beelzebub, a ram beast of sorts that has a proboscis (hence having the name of the Lord of the Flies) . It's a symbol of evil and impurity in my fanfic.

Yeah that's one of the main reasons I decided to do him since I've never seen it done... heck there was a huge group that did all of them but him here where I live a few years back... but yeah I'm not sure why no one has ever tried to do him he's one of the koolest out of them... heck he certainly has the neatest stuff... two swords and a helm!

That's kinda sad. 8 not being in the group. Oh, well at least your going the extra mile. :)And I've never seen this much effort put in a cosplay costume, either. Ya considering on adding 8's items, too?

Yeah I just sadly ran out of time... but I intend to have all the props like the swords and mask and magnet and such done for AnimeFest later in the year... also might consider doing the Seamstress Monster for someone else to wear so I have someone to pose with X) ...if all goes well at least a few of the people who did the other numbers might show up at a con with me and take some pics and such... I think 9, 7, and one of the twins

Thank you... I made the mouth eye level and put some black mesh in front of it... figured it was easier than seeing through the eyes plus height bonus.

A-Kon an anime convention in Dallas TX. is where i'm going to do it for the first time which is this weekend if all goes according to plan... then I plan on doing all his props and such and perfecting it a bit then going to Anime-Fest which is also in Dallas but later in the year... by then if not later next year I'll perhaps do the Seamstress Monster to go with it!

Yeah I have but I have not clue as of how to get into that kind of a job... then again I'm currently studying animation and I don't know how to go about that either since I was thinking about being a Character Designer... not sure which I mean I do enjoy creating things and I seem to have a good eye for detail so hopefully whatever I go into that has something to do with it.

Go to LA. Seriously. It's tough to make it as an actor there, but productions almost always need more behind-the-scenes people.

lol because well for one 8 doesn't smile much in the film so most all pictures I had as reference were him with a slight frown... I think the only times he does smile is when he's getting high off the magnet or a couple of times when he bullies the others or in the end when they are dead... but mostly it looks like that since I did a slight frown and opened it up just enough so that I can see out of the mouth.
